Cacti and succulents, with their unique shapes and resistance, are increasingly popular in our homes. To promote their growth and development, it is essential to offer them soil adapted to their specific needs. We will explore the characteristics of a good soil for cacti and succulents, the different types of substrates available and advice on use to ensure the health of your plants.
Why a special soil for cacti and succulents?
Originating from desert or semi-arid regions, cacti and succulents are accustomed to soils poor in organic matter, well drained and capable of retaining water to a limited extent. A classic potting soil, too rich and too compact, would encourage the development of cryptogamic diseases and root rot.
The characteristics of a good potting soil for cacti and succulents:
Draining: The potting soil must allow water to drain quickly to avoid stagnation that suffocates the roots.
Aerated: Good aeration promotes oxygenation of the roots and limits the development of fungi.
Low in organic matter: An excess of organic matter promotes water retention and can lead to rot.
Light: A light potting soil facilitates repotting and allows the roots to develop freely.
Cacti and succulents are very sensitive to excess water. Worm Compost and organic fertilizer stimulate rooting and nourish plants over time.
Why choosing Tonusol?
Choosing the right soil is a crucial step in growing cacti and succulents. By choosing a Tonusol cactus & succulent soil that is well-draining and low in organic matter, you will provide your plants with the best growing conditions.
